Vintage Seiko Advan Ref. 7019-7280 | Automatic 21-Jewel | Green Gradient Dial | 1973
Description
A distinctive example of Japanese watchmaking from the early 1970s, this vintage Seiko Advan Automatic combines bold period styling with an eye-catching gradient dial and reliable mechanical engineering.
Produced in 1973, this reference 7019-7280 features a striking green-to-silver gradient dial, with a darker green centre transitioning into a lighter white outer ring. The distinctive orange Advan sun emblem provides a vibrant contrast, complemented by applied baton hour markers, polished steel hands and Seiko branding.
The stainless-steel case features a combination of brushed surfaces and polished bevels, creating a sharp, architectural appearance characteristic of the era. The faceted acrylic crystal adds another layer of visual interest, catching the light from different angles and enhancing the depth of the dial.
Inside is the Seiko calibre 7019 automatic movement, featuring 21 jewels and a practical day-date complication. The movement has been serviced, including disassembly, cleaning, lubrication and regulation, and the day-date function operates correctly.
The watch is fitted with a replacement stainless-steel bracelet and clasp in a period-appropriate style. With its distinctive dial, angular case and colourful design, this Advan offers a characterful alternative to more conventional vintage Seiko models.

Condition
This Seiko Advan presents with the distinctive character and colour that make vintage Japanese watches from the 1970s so appealing.
The stainless-steel case displays moderate age-related wear, including light handling marks and some oxidation around the edges near the case back. The original brushed surfaces and polished bevels retain their defined lines, while the case-back engravings remain clear and legible.
The original green-to-silver gradient dial is in very good condition, with crisp printing, the distinctive orange Advan sun emblem and applied hour markers. The original luminous material has aged to a consistent cream tone.
The stainless-steel bracelet shows signs of wear and some surface oxidation between the links.
As with any vintage watch, there are signs of age and use. Please refer to the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
Vintage mechanical watches require delicate care and handling when winding the movement, setting the time and operating the crown. The crown and stem can be particularly delicate and should never be forced.
About
Founded in Japan in 1881, Seiko has played a significant role in the evolution of modern watchmaking, becoming renowned for its technical innovation, manufacturing expertise and ability to produce distinctive timepieces across a wide range of styles. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Seiko explored increasingly adventurous designs, moving beyond traditional dress watches towards more expressive shapes, colourful dials and contemporary aesthetics. The Advan (Advanced) collection reflects this particularly creative period in the brand's history. Recognisable for its distinctive sun emblem, vibrant dial designs and unconventional styling, the Advan range captured the experimental spirit of 1970s Japanese watch design. Gradient finishes, faceted crystals and angular cases gave these watches a character all their own. This 1973 reference 7019-7280 is a wonderful example of that design philosophy. Its green-to-silver gradient dial and contrasting orange emblem make it stand apart from more understated vintage watches, while the automatic movement retains the practical mechanical appeal for which Seiko is known. Today, vintage Seiko Advan models offer collectors an opportunity to explore a more unusual side of the brand's heritage, combining distinctive period design with accessible Japanese mechanical watchmaking.
What's Included
Original box and papers are NOT included. As with many vintage timepieces, these original accessories have often been lost over the decades. If a watch is supplied with its original box, papers, or additional accessories, this will be clearly stated in the listing.
Care
As a vintage mechanical timepiece, this watch should be handled with care and kept away from water, steam and moisture. Avoid exposure to shocks, strong magnetic fields and extreme temperatures, and never force the crown or controls. When not being worn, store it in a clean, dry environment. Due to the age and delicate nature of vintage mechanical movements, regular professional servicing is recommended to maintain reliable performance and longevity. This timepiece has been carefully preserved for over 5 decades. Vintage mechanical watches require delicate care and handling when winding the movement, setting the time and operating the crown. The crown and stem can be particularly delicate and should never be forced. Although some vintage models were originally rated for water resistance, no vintage watch sold by The Vault & Time Collective should be considered water resistant. We recommend treating all vintage timepieces as non-water-resistant unless otherwise explicitly stated.
