Description

A beautifully understated example of a fully original vintage Longines dress watch, reference 7821, dating to 1967, sitting on a lovely aftermarket tan leather strap.

This elegant example features a compact 34mm stainless-steel case, a refined silver/off-white dial with elongated Roman numeral markers, slender dark hands and Longines' iconic winged-hourglass emblem. The restrained proportions and exceptionally slim profile give the watch a timeless dress-watch character that feels distinctly of its era.

At just 6mm thick, the watch sits elegantly on the wrist, while the clean dial and absence of unnecessary complications allow the quality of the Longines design to take centre stage.

The original signed Longines crown completes the case, providing an elegant period detail and further contributing to the watch's authentic vintage character.

Powering the watch is the Longines Calibre 428, a slim 17-jewel manual-winding mechanical movement operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. The Cal. 428 was designed as a refined, compact hand-wound movement, making it particularly well suited to the elegant proportions of this dress watch.

The movement has been professionally serviced and lubricated, helping to ensure smooth operation and reliable timekeeping.

This Longines presents with the understated elegance characteristic of vintage Swiss dress watches.

The Patina off-white dial, printed Roman numerals and Longines winged-hourglass emblem create a beautifully balanced dial, while the slim stainless-steel case gives the watch an exceptionally refined profile.

The case displays signs of age and previous wear consistent with a vintage timepiece, with the natural character of the watch retained rather than presenting as an overly refinished example. The dial also displays subtle signs of patina and age, adding to its vintage character.

The acrylic crystal has some age-related surface marks, consistent with a watch of this period.

Furthermore, with vintage watches, delicate care and handling is required when activating movements, winding the watch, setting the time. The crown & stem can especially can be fragile.

About

Founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, Longines has played an important role in the development of Swiss mechanical watchmaking for almost two centuries. The brand became renowned for its precision, elegant designs and technically refined mechanical movements, with its watches becoming particularly associated with understated Swiss craftsmanship. During the 1960s and 1970s, Longines produced a wide variety of elegant mechanical dress watches, often combining slim cases, finely proportioned dials and beautifully engineered hand-wound movements. The Ref. 7821 is a particularly understated example of this approach, pairing a compact 34mm case with the slim Calibre 428 movement. Today, vintage Longines pieces from this period offer a fascinating glimpse into the brand's traditional mechanical watchmaking, combining Swiss craftsmanship, elegant proportions and timeless design.

What's Included

Original box and papers are NOT included. As with many vintage timepieces, these original accessories have often been lost over the decades. If a watch is supplied with its original box, papers, or additional accessories, this will be clearly stated in the listing.

Care

As a vintage mechanical timepiece, this watch should be handled with care and kept away from water, steam and moisture. Avoid exposure to shocks, strong magnetic fields and extreme temperatures, and never force the crown or controls. When not being worn, store it in a clean, dry environment. Due to the age and delicate nature of vintage mechanical movements, regular professional servicing is recommended to maintain reliable performance and longevity. This timepiece has been carefully preserved for almost 60 years. Although some vintage models were originally rated for water resistance, no vintage watch sold by The Vault & Time Collective should be considered water resistant. We recommend treating all vintage timepieces as non-water-resistant unless otherwise explicitly stated. Furthermore, with vintage watches, delicate care and handling is required when activating movements, winding the watch, setting the time. The crown & stem can especially can be fragile.
